Expressions of biophilic design engage the senses, connecting to positive, personal memories of joy experienced within the abundant natural beauty of British Columbia. Themes were derived from extensive concept workshops with kids from 2 - 21 years old. From their input emerged design evocative of changing seasons, shifting light, mountain forests, streams and the rich coastal sea life of the nearby ocean waters create reference moments to guide visitors with a sense of discovery and wonder.

This 8-story expansion for inpatient cancer treatment and critical care beds creates an immersive, magical forest to foster healing through community making, biophilic lighting, whimsical narrative graphics and warm wood tones. Patients, families and staff benefit from a multi-layered approach to the interior design and placemaking, providing an abundance of natural light, views and loads of hope and aspiration.
